Eating Disorders
Eating disorders affect 1 in 20 people at some point in their lives, the majority between the ages of 16 and 25. They are in no way a 'lifestyle choice', 'self indulgence', solely prompted by the desire to be thin, or necessarily even recognisable from outwards appearance, but a serious and common problem which can encompass a whole range of expressions. This section aims to provide information, advice and help for both those suffering from disordered eating and those concerned about, or supporting a friend.
CUSU provides a number of support-systems to those suffering with or affected by an eating disorder- the Buddy Scheme provides peer-to-peer support for sufferers with trained student volunteers, and the CUSU welfare officer and CUSU eating Disorders support officer(eds@cusu.ac.uk) are also available for help, advice and information.
There are also several other sources of useful information. Have a look at:
- A pamphlet for friends of those suffering with eating disorders
- A support leaflet for the holiday/christmas season
You can always contact the CUSU Welfare Officer for support, more information or if you have any questions.
