Cambridge University Revolver and Pistol Club [CURPC]
If you have a steady hand and a cool nerve, then pistol shooting could be for you. The club specialises in competitive air pistol shooting, although we also compete with Light-weight Sport Rifles. This year at the Imperial meeting, a large rifle shooting meeting, the club won all 4 team competitions entered including the summer varsity match shot with full bore gallery rifles. We followed up this success with a trip to the British Pistol Championships were Vin Shen Ban was 2nd in the 2nd division 10m precision air pistol and 8th in the mens sport pistol. James Bullock and Sophie Reed where both 6 th in their respective Sport Pistol Championships. The club has an active social side culminating in the Annual Dinner at the end of the Lent term. The shooting season starts with a Beginners' Match but club members can compete at whatever level they feel comfortable with. One of our most important matches is the Varsity Match, where a half-blue may be earned. For the past few years we have taken teams to Intershoot, an International competition in The Hague. The Ladies Team came away with team Bronze on all three days in 2001, with Kate Smith winning individual Bronze in the Junior Section on the final day, and Laura Stanning achieved a personal best of 9th equal against several Commonwealth representatives. Benefits - use of club equipment, membership of the Cambridgeshire Shooting Association. Possibility of earning a half-blue. Past members include Tony Chivers - 5th in 1964 Olympics, also Geoff Robinson Olympic 1984 World Champion 1979, National Squad 1973-1992.
