The Arts Society, Newnham College
In 1928 Virginia Woolf addressed the Newnham Arts Society on the subject of ‘Women and Fiction’. It was this talk that became the basis for A Room of One’s Own, published the following year. In 2009, the 80th anniversary of Woolf’s paper and the 800th anniversary of Cambridge University, the Arts Society is celebrating its prestigious heritage in various ways, with events, a speaker series, and a journal.
