Unplanned Pregnancy
When you suspect that you are pregnant, the first step is to confirm the pregnancy with a test. If you are pregnant, then you have three basic choices:
- You can continue the pregnancy and keep the baby
- You can continue the pregnancy and place the baby for adoption
- You can end the pregnancy by having an abortion
Deciding what choice to make can be very difficult as an unplanned pregnancy can arouse mixed feelings. It may be useful to consider your values, beliefs, and plans and hopes for the future, and how having a baby would affect these. It is important not to have to make the decision alone: confide in someone you trust such as your partner, family, tutor or a close friend.
Try not to put off making your decision: if you decide that you would like to continue the pregnancy, it is important to begin antenatal care early so that both you and your baby are healthy. If you decide that you would like to end the pregnancy, the earlier an abortion is obtained, the safer and easier it will be.
