Information for Student Parents

The most detailed source of locally relevant information is contained in the Cambridge Guide for Student Parents. It is written by CUSU and the University Childcare Information Officer. It is a very useful and up-to-date resource for student parents, covering University provision, childcare, finance, healthcare and accommodation.

Plenty of students at Cambridge have children, although student parents aren't the most conspicuous sub-section of the student population. Though the University and Colleges have many short-comings in their provision and support for student parents, things are improving and Cambridge is essentially a great place to bring up kids, with plenty of parks and green spaces, family-friendly pubs and restaurants and good schools.

The CUSU Welfare and Graduates Officer and the CUSU Women's Officer are campaigning to improve the situation for students with children, by working with the University and Colleges on increasing their provision of childcare services and information.

The Family Society is a student run society based at Wolfson College for all university student parents and holds social events for students and their families, promotes the welfare of such families, and offers advice and support.

The Graduate Union runs a coffee morning each Friday for student parents and their children.

The University Childcare Information Officer can by contacted by current or prospective students and staff members for any information and advice relating to childcare on 01223 332249. S/he can offer help and advice all aspects of student parenting. They organise a student parent mailing list ensuring all parents are kept up-to-date on childcare information, including details of student parents held each term. Join this list by e-mailing the Childcare Information Advisor at childcare@admin.ac.uk with your details.
