Pregnancy Tests

Where can I get one?

  • From your GP: you need to take a urine sample.
  • Family planning clinics such as The Laurels.
  • Buy one over the counter from a pharmacy: they cost £8-15.
  • Free from CUSU – you can leave your name and college and one will be sent to you in a plain envelope. They can also be picked up from CUSU reception, but only during office hours.
  • Free from Linkline – drop in any night from 7pm-8am at St Edward's Passage.
  • From college womens' officers – some keep a stock, but others get them from CUSU so it may be quicker to go direct to CUSU.

How soon does it become effective?

Pregnancy can be detected when a period is one day late. If you have had unprotected sex during your period, you need to wait until the day after your next period is due.

If your test gives a negative result but there is still no period one week later, you should do another test.
