TURTLES CAN FLY

Turtles Can Fly is an international award winning film set in a Kurdish refugee camp on the Iraqi-Turkish border on the eve of the US invasion of Iraq. Thirteen-year-old Kak is known as "Satellite" for his installation of dishes and antennae for local villages looking for news of Saddam Hussein. He is the dynamic but also cowardly, bullying and manipulative leader of the children, organizing the dangerous but necessary sweeping and clearing of the minefields.

3. CAMBRIDGE RAG COMMITTEE

It's that time of year again when Committees swap round and we know some of you are keen to sink your teeth into something else! Have you considered joining the RAG Central Committee for next year?

Those unfamiliar with RAG might like to check out www.cambridgerag.org.uk . The Cambridge Students' RAG Appeal donated £160,000 last year to worthy causes, much to the credit of its many student volunteers. The skills you have gained serving your JCR could next year play a vital role in contributing to the ever increasing total of funds raised by RAG.

Being a part of the RAG Committee
* will build on those skills you've already developed
* will look good on your CV
* will benefit less fortunate people by raising funds and awareness for local, national and international charities
* could count towards your Millennium Volunteers Award of Excellence
* is guaranteed to be a whole lot of fun!

The RAG Central Committee currently comprises over a dozen members with widely varied and exciting roles, so there's something for everyone.
* Former JCR Presidents and Secretaries might like to bring their talents for organizing, delegating and over-seeing to the roles of Chairman, Treasurer or Secretary.
* If you like a challenge perhaps you have the energy and persistence to help drive the high-flying RAG Raids (Street Collections) team?
* Ents Officer with a flair for putting together the best bashes and biggest bops? Take charge of Blind Date, Jailbreak or even RAG Week itself!
* Are you interested in Charity work? Headed towards a related career? Become our Charities Secretary and liaise with the people that actually run the charities we work with.
* Or maybe with that super-creative streak you should be Publicity Officer and give some real sparkle to the way that RAG promotes its events and activities! :)
* There is also a RAG sabbatical post - Rag President - which involves running the Rag office, administration, overseeing the committee, managing the Rag team and making sure everything runs smoothly with regards to events and street collections. For more information contact rag@cusu.

Whatever your strengths we need well-organized, hard-working and highly creative people like YOU to run RAG next year and continue the trend of onward and upwards for fund-raising, community involvement and above all some good clean fun!

Please don't hesitate to email rag@cusu if you're interested in a position or have any questions.
