Cambridge University Social Documentary Film Society [SOCDOCSOC]
SOC DOC SOC is a new and unique documentary film society at the University of Cambridge dedicated to advancing the cause of documentary film-making and appreciation.
We seek to establish and maintain a lively community of documentary enthusiasts in Cambridge by screening documentaries, inviting guest speakers, holding discussions, organising film-making workshops and working on film-making projects. The society owns high quality equipment for use by members.
We have a diverse membership within the university and also non-students who are working in the film industry. Members of the society can develop their film-making skills, or simply watch documentary films in likeminded company, and, importantly, the society accommodates all interests and ambitions.
We formed in 2006 and have already been visited by several film-makers and producers, such as Margaret Loescher, Luke Holland, Daisy Asquith, Ollie Hodge and Rachel Wexler. Other recent events include a micro-documentary competition in association with Apple and Channel Four Docs (with £1000 of prizes), sound workshop with film-maker Giovanna Chesler, and the Cambridge launch of Current TV.
Whether you are interested in making doc films or simply enjoy watching them, we'd love to hear from you.
