Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine Society [CGCMsoc]

Logo

The society aims to complement the services already offered by Medsoc and Clinsoc, but is specifically targeted at older students studying medicine. MedSoc is largely aimed at pre-clinical students and has no activity outside of term time, while ClinSoc caters almost solely for clinical students based at Addenbrookes.

The CGCM society membership is open to all mature, affiliate, MBPhD and CGCM students studying medicine at Cambridge. Although older medical students can get a lot out of MedSoc and ClinSoc, they do differ slightly from undergraduates on the standard course. Some may have partners and children, a mortgage, and often choose to do different things with their free time than a typical undergraduate.

The CGCM society aims to cater for these differing needs, through:

 Organising events targeted towards slightly older students.
 Arranging some events in Bury St. Edmunds, as CGCM students spend a large amount of time at the West Suffolk Hospital (particularly in their fourth year).
 Providing advice for students regarding the course and how to cope with the demands of studying medicine.
 Providing a welfare service.
 Advising prospective applicants interested in studying medicine as a graduate, mature or affiliate student.
 Developing an alumni network to enable past students to contact one another, and allow current students to contact alumni for careers advice.
