CUSU Access Campaign

Logo

'Access' is an umbrella term for all of our efforts to make Cambridge more accessible to students from all backgrounds. This includes, among other things, encouraging applications from traditionally under-represented backgrounds, campaigning for reform of the admissions process to ensure selection is based on academic potential, and countering negative media stereotypes and public perceptions of Cambridge. The campaign encompasses Target (focussing on state school applications) and CUSU's participation in GEEMA (Group to Encourage Ethnic Minority Applications), plus accessibility for groups such as parents, mature students and students with disabilities. The Target campaign aims to increase the proportion of undergraduates coming from state schools through encouraging more applications. The Target Campaign runs a Shadowing Scheme for pupils in the lower sixth, where three days are spent shadowing a current student, with accommodation and meals paid for by the colleges. The Target Campaign also co-ordinates visits to state schools by current undergraduates.
