Cambridge Open Days
(Video taken from University's Open Days website.)
There are tens of open days every year, run by the central University, individual Colleges and Departments. Travel to and from Cambridge, and lunch, tend not to be provided, but the open days and other events themselves are absolutely free.
They're a really good chance to take a look at Cambridge yourself, often including the city, the college buildings and the faculties. They will typically include activities such as:
- 'Cambridge Explained' talk - an introduction to Cambridge, the college system and student life;
- Student Q&A - an opportunity for you to meet current undergraduates here, to ask them questions about college life, social activities, colleges, courses and their overall view of student life here;
- Tour of Cambridge - these usually include a walk around the centre of town, a tour inside one of the Cambridge colleges and a look around some of the academic facilities like departments and libraries.
- Admissions talk - at which a Cambridge University admissions tutors explains and answers your questions about the process of applying.
The University Open Day website lists all of the upcoming open days, including those by Colleges and Departments. You can also find information there about specific events for groups such as ethnic minority students, mature students, students in care and students from FE colleges.
A tip for travelling to open days is: if you can, drop your car off at a Park and Ride and catch a bus into town for the start of your open day! The centre of Cambridge is heavily pedestrianised and there is very little parking available.
