Could it be you?

Be a Sabbatical....

The CUSU Sabbatical Officers form the centre of the CUSU Executive, head the teams and are responsible for making sure that the decisions of CUSU Council are carried out. The CUSU-GU shared Student Support Officer works jointly for the Graduate Union and CUSU and is accountable to both Councils.

For 2010/11 CUSU Sabbatical Officers will be paid £16,640 a year. The required working hours range from 37 to 48 hours a week, though there is a prevalent "on call" culture. Sabbs generally must be at work between 10 and 4 on weekdays; though much of their work, depending on the position may take place outside usual business hours. Contracts begin on 1st July 2010 and will run until 14th July 2011 (there is a two week period of handover with both teams employed). This includes 36 days of holiday including Bank Holidays.

Although it is rare, some colleges offer Sabbs accommodation; however, most find private housing in town. There is plenty of information and help available for doing this. Sabbs can be elected in the middle of their degree; they take a year off and resume their course the following year. However, they must first seek permission from their Senior Tutor.

Be an NUS Delegate...

Every year, the NUS (National Union of Students) holds its Annual Conference where it debates and passes policy, elects officers and carries out the legal responsibilities that it is required to undertake (such as passing the accounts). Being a delegate to NUS Conference involves representing the views of Cambridge students at a national level and all students are eligible to stand.

The conference consists of over 1000 students from around the country and this year will be held from Tuesday 13th - Thursday 15th April at the Sage in NewcastleGateshead. Those elected will receive free accommodation in Newcastle and transport between Newcastle and Cambridge.

As part of the reduction in the size of the NUS Annual Conference as a whole and the redistribution of delegate entitlement, this year there are 5 delegate places up for election in the cross campus elections.
