Zabbaleen Garbage Village handmade products [Zabbaleen]

The Garbage Village is a community where the garbage collectors of Cairo live and recycle the rubbish of the city. This summer I volunteered at APE where several development projects are taking place to improve the lives and education of the inhabitants of the village, many of whom cannot read or write. The most heartbreaking thing to see, however, is that many of these people live in and amongst the garbage.

The inhabitants of the community recycle and sell a number of handmade products like fabrics and paper and our aim is to market these products in the UK so as to help these people bring themselves out of poverty.
