The Education Network
Much of CUSU's work concerns the provision of Education within the university. A large number of people either campaign for improvements or represent students on education-related committees. In order to co-ordinate these activities, CUSU runs the Education Network which allows communication and the exchange of ideas and issues.

CUSU Academic Affairs Officer
The CUSU Academic Affairs Officer is one of CUSU’s six full-time sabbatical positions, elected by the entire membership of CUSU during the main elections at the end of Lent Term. For the Education Network, the most important responsibilities are sitting on the General Board of the Faculties’ Education Sub-committee and the Senior Tutors’ Education Sub-committee. He or she is also responsible for Education-related welfare and handling problems which individual students may have with education within the university.
The Academic Affairs Officer also has his own section of the website where you can find further information.
CUSU Education Officer
The Education Officer is a non-Sabbatical member of the CUSU Executive by the entire membership of CUSU during the main elections at the end of Lent Term. The rôle is fairly freely defined, with each officer making of it what he or she wants. Formal responsibilities include sitting on the university’s Libraries Syndicate and chairing and running the Education Network.
The Education Officer also has his own section of the website where you can find further information.
CUSU Faculty Liaison Officer
The Faculty Liaison Officer is a Faculty Board Representative, elected by other Faculty Board Reps at the first Faculty Forum meeting in Lent Term. He or she is a member of the CUSU Executive. Again, the rôle is fairly freely defined but key responsibilities include creating publicity for Faculty Board elections, extracting election results from the faculties and acting as a correspondent between CUSU, the faculties and the Faculty Board Reps. Formally, the Faculty Liaison Officer is also the secretary for the Faculty Forum.
Faculty Forum Members with CUSU Council Votes
Three members of the Faculty Forum are elected at the first meeting of Lent Term to have voting rights on CUSU Council. They are elected to ensure that the status of students as members of faculties is remembered and considered at the Council, in addition to that of students as members of colleges.
The Faculty Forum
The Faculty Forum is a body composed of the Faculty Board Reps and the three education-related CUSU Executive members. It meets regularly (usually divided into separate sections for the arts and sciences) to allow Faculty Board Reps to share issues and problems so that CUSU can co-ordinate responses. At the first meeting of Lent Term, it elects the Faculty Forum Representatives on CUSU Council and the Faculty Liaison Officer.
The Faculty Forum also has its own section of the website where you can find futher details.
Faculty Board Reps
Each Faculty Board has three student members, elected by the students in each faculty to represent them at the faculty board level. In addition, a number of departmental boards and syndicates also have student reps. The Faculty Board is the most important desision-making body within a faculty and has a large effect on the students. Everything from the form and content of the Tripos to the provisions of the Faculty Library are discussed by the faculty boards and this makes student representation vital.
Find out who your reps are.The College Education Network
The College Education Network is an association of college JCR and MCR Academic Affairs Officers. It meets frequently to allow issues which affect education in colleges to be discussed.
The College Education Network also has its own section of the website where you can find further information.
College Unions' Education Officers
The officers on invidual JRC, MRC and College Union committees who are reponsible for academic matters can be called anything from Education Officers to Academic Affairs Officers, Academic & Education Campaigns Officers or Academic Welfare Officers. Whatever their name, their job remains the same: representing students on matters concerning their education within their college. CUSU offers help and support to them via
regular College Education Network meetings where they can meet to discuss any issues and recieve support and guidance.
Other Representatives
The Faculty Board Reps for faculties on the Sidwick Site elect, from amongst themselves, someone to represent students on the Sidwick Site Committee. The students in the Faculty of Archaeology and Anthropology elect two students to represent them on the management committee of the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. CUSU aims to increase student representation within the university, so hopefully this list will continue to grow.
See the University Representation section for more information.
