Faculty Reps
Being a student Faculty Board member is a position of great importance for student representation. CUSU can do a lot to help you in your work.
Firstly, we provide training and support both through formal training sessions and by always being available for advice. On call always are the CUSU Education Officer (the full time Sabbatical Officer) and the Undergraduate and Graduate Faculty Academic Officers (two part-time Members of the Executive).
Secondly, we provide representation on many higher bodies. This means that if something is passed by your Faculty Board, against your wishes, we might have a chance of changing it at another level. We also represent students on various committees to do with specific bodies so if you have a problem with, for example, the University Library or Language Centre, we are the people to contact.
Finally, we offer resources for "campaigning" which can be anything from using CUSU-headed paper for writing letters to full demonstrations and pickets, as necessary.
Current campaigns issues which you may wish to take up at your Faculty are saving small subjects, improving online resources, supervisor training, return of examination scripts, and plagiarism.
Many of the current issues, as well as advice and information for Faculty Reps is contained in the Faculty Reps Handbook 2011, produced by Maria Helmling, CUSU Education Officer 2010-11.
